Aging Ruthlessly

Well, another year starts today! I've been blessed to enjoy 59 years, so far, in excellent health!
Today I did another one of my upgraded birthday workouts:
I did 100 meters on the Concept 2 Rower for each year of my age (timed, of course).
What a blast!
For the last couple of weeks I've taking the CrossFit Workout of the Day and scaling each one up to increase the difficulty. Now that is celebrating!
The videos are on my YouTube Channel
check them out when you get some time, okay?
As you can tell by the title of this e-mail, I am not inclined to age gracefully;
I prefer to age ruthlessly.
That has nothing to do with being mean-spirited or crotchedy as I get older. Rather, it means I refuse to let our culture/society dictate what my life should be like, especially as I get older.
One of my role models actually lived a few thousand years ago, and was an ancient warrior named Caleb.He was written about in the Old Testament of the Bible as being as strong at age 80 as he was at 40. He actually fought hand-to-hand against much younger men during their war, and won!
Now that's a role model! Don't dare call him a senior citizen, old codger, old goat, or other term that people often use to describe older folks these days. You might get a rude awakening. If a person mouthed off to an old World War II Marine, for instance, he'd probably get knocked out!
In a culture where age is looked at with disdain, it is vital that older people don't get sucked into the mental trap of believing that garbage just because they are a certain age.
Now if you are a person who is approaching (fill in the blank with that dreaded age) get a grip on that nonsense right now!
If you choose to think that way you could already be starting to severely limit your capabilities and performance later in life.
Instead, head down to the gym, load the bar heavy and get to work! No excuses!
