4 lessons from the hawk ( ands a couple of others)

Living in southwest Florida, we have been blessed with an incredible amount of wildlife.
Animals from alligators to black bears to sharks to herons, plus many more abound here.
One of the most amazing to watch are red-shouldered hawks .
Here are 4 examples of what I've seen them do in person.
  • Snag a black bird off a power line in the blink of an eye while it was peacefully resting at sunset.
  • Grab a large house cat out of its' yard while it was just strolling along.
The first two might seem cold-blooded, but that's how they eat in real life.
Check out two other examples that end up differently
  • A large flock of birds suddenly take flight as a the hawk singles out a mocking bird and  rapidly chases after it. Both birds zig-zag quickly, the hawk is only inches behind the mocking bird, as it heads into the branches of an oak tree and escapes.
  • A squirrel is sitting at the end of a large branch of an oak tree munching out on some acorns, when a hawk lands on the branch about 3 feet away (blocking his escape, or so it seemed). There was a brief pause then the squirrel charges straight at the hawk and runs underneath him on the other side of the branch and escapes.
The "take away" lesson in all 4 situations is that taking decisive action can make all the difference between life and death. It's also true of many other things in life, business, etc.
Think about how any of these true examples might relate to your own situations in life.

Love the idea of charging towards the hawk. While there is always some degree of thought that should go into the choices we make, sometimes it's just down to making a choice and acting on it without haste.
