Today I'm looking back over the years to when I first found out about something called CrossFit, the year was 2004. I was talking with a guy I trained with at the Russian Combat Academy (run by Sonny Puzikas) who mentioned CrossFit to me and I had never heard of it.
So I started checking it out and found they were located in Santa Cruz, CA and had a total of 4 gyms.
I was completely intimidated, but intrigued by what I was seeing them do. Realizing that this would probably be huge I became a licensed CrossFit affiliate in 2005. We were the 35th one and the only the second in Florida,
In 2006 my wife and I flew out to train with Coach Glassman at the original CrossFit and get certified.
We loved the Santa Cruz area (who wouldn't?) and were blessed to learn directly from Coach Glassman, Mark Rippetoe, John Hackelman, Coach Burgener, and the first generation of CF Fire-Breathers who did the demonstrations.
Opening a CrossFit gym in 2005 when almost no one had ever heard of it was quite an experience, but we persisted in educating the public about it.
Now as we approach the end of 2011, things have dramatically changed concerning CrossFit. Very few people have not heard of it, and it is stilol growing like crazy around the world.
Thanks to all the folks at CrossFit HQ and the global CF community!
I am thankful to have been able to become part of CrossFit in the early days of its' development and to still love it. CrossFit to me is still fun and I intend to keep it that way.
Today we celebrate at our gym!
